Preparing for an offline install of ARR 3 I first check the installed modules on my Windows Server 2016 / IIS 10 server.

I expected to see ARRv3_0 (along with ExternalCache and UrlRewrite2), but instead I have ARR, ARRv2_5_KB2589179.

What? Why is ARR 3 installing ARR 2?

    Hi Chris ,

According to your description,I have installed ARR3.0 by using Web platform installer.I also find your problem. After I  instaled arr3.0, in Web platform installer shows me I have installed 2.5. But actually I installed 3.0.

Then ,I check the type  of arr in my machine ,it show that the type of arr is 3.0.So ,I think it may be a error in web platform.

You could check the type of arr in control panel or you could see the details  by checking the file ARR_ReadMe.htm in the folder %PROGRAMFILES%\IIS\Application Request Routing  which shows as below:

I don't think theres any other conclusion: ARR 3 is correctly installed, but shows up in WebPI as ARR 2.5

It's strange that this error hasn't been corrected in 4 years given that ARR3 was last published/updated in 2015.
