Can't browse from within server, but can on LAN

I'm reviewing a small website in my company; it has a host name ( ie not default website, but on another website, also port 80 so has a host name).
When I browse from outside the server ( but on LAN) , it runs just fine. When I browse to from within the server (remote), it prompts me to log in, which of course fails. It is windows authentication, but I am using the same login in both scenarios.
Is there some kind of setting or situation which would explain this kind of behaviour? thanks

The very famous loopback check https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/896861/you-receive-error-401-1-when-you-browse-a-web-site-that-uses-integrate
