    Hi team,

After configuring a fresh install of Server 2016 and configuring the SMTP Virtual Server to act as a relay, while testing (via placing a .txt file under %systemroot%\inetpub\mailroot\pickup we're getting this error:

Unable to deliver this message because the follow error was encountered: "Error is processing file in pickup directory.".

The specific error code was 0xC00402CE.

    The message sender was xxxxx@xxxxx.org.au.

The configuration is to send to Office 365. We have confirmed authentication for the account being used, and we are using the correct email address, ports, SMTP server etc. We have also configured the Exchange Online connector in Office 365 as per instructions, using the IP address.

For the life of us, we cannot find details on the error code online, in fact when we Google it, we get results for different error codes in bold (ie. google is also searching other errors).

We get the same error code, irrespective of the contents of the txt file (even if it's blank!)

Any guidance will be much appreciated!

    Hi Alex,

I didn't find any document about how to fix this issue. So we may need to ensure the smtp virtual server has been configured correctly.

Please check whether you have configured the virtual server following this link:
