    I have a web.config code to allow illegal characters like *.

    <httpRuntime requestPathInvalidCharacters="" requestValidationMode="4.0" />
    <pages validateRequest="false" />

    I am trying to set this under IIS directly, rather creating a web.config file.

    Can anyone let me know how can I achieve this?

    IIS only manages its own settings under <system.webServer>. For ASP.NET settings, you will have to use web.config.
