Several years I created and administered a website using wordpress. Just before it was shut down I used a plugin to create a backup of the site, themes, plugins etc. in several zip files.
I am now doing some TAFE / Community Courses in that I am required to create a simple website. Rather then reinvent the wheel I have the opportunity to show that I have created a complex website. (1gig) (lots of pictures)
After coming across several options - WAMP etc, I discovered Wordpress for Windows and Webmatrix.
I have a clean laptop - with Win10 installed and downloaded Wordpress for Windows. All apps were installed.
I have extracted my back up files and have them in a new directory Wordpress2 under My websites, next to Wordpress1 (which was created as part of the install)
I have tried a few different things, read forums etc.
What do I have to do - so that Webmatrix will open the old wordpress site under my websites. I have a clean install ready to go..
Once I get the wordpress login page up and I get in (I think i know the password, but I also created a few emergency users) I can hopefully update the site.

Open WebMatrix -> File -> Open -> Folder as Site, it should open your Old site in WebMatrix.
Once I get the wordpress login page up
It means that you have installed the wordpress site successfully, so what's the problem now? You can't open the old site?
If you can't open the old site, did you get any error message?

I unstalled and reinstalled again for a clean Wordpress install.
All went well, after Wordpress install I added the folder as a site, next came PHP detected, then the website details displayed
Then was asked to create a new file which I ignored as this was not relevant
I end up with 2 errors under requests
then on Chrome local host :28532
underwhich error establishing a database connection
I therefore suspect that it is a database
db name is stgmbco3_wrdp1
db username is stgmbco3_wrdp1
db password is encypted which I dont know
these settings were for the hosted website
i could only find one database named database

Make sure you have the favicon.ico at the root folder of your site.
You need to import the DataBase of the old site too. You can edit the connect setting in the wp-config.php file.
