  • IIS SEO Tool Kit fails on Windows 10 Pro

Last week, I did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro, along with installing IIS for ASP.NET web development on the machine.

When I went to install the IIS SEO Tool Kit extension, I got the error message saying IIS 7 or higher is required.

I never had this issue on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1

I used Microsoft Web Platform Installer 5 to do the install of IIS SEO - two times.

I found a related link, so I think IIS SEO toolkit needs to be updated for Windows 10.

    Possible solution:

    • Open Regedit > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InetStp
    • Edit "MajorVersion" and set the "DECIMAL" value to 9
    • Hit F5 while in Regedit
    • Now go install the ReWrite 2.0 module.
    • Change the "MajorVersion" back to "DECIMAL" value of 10
    • Hit F5 while in Regedit
    • Close Regedit

    Thank you for your response.

I just spent three days doing a clean install of Windows 10 Pro, Visual Studio 2015, SQL Server 2014, and about 40 other software programs over a slow Internet connection.

Hence, I am reluctant to directly edit the registry in case it is corrupted and I have to reinstall all over again (in the worst case scenario).

Given that Windows 10 is now released, i.e. no longer in preview, and IIS SEO Toolkit is a Microsoft product, wouldn't it make more sense for Microsoft to fix the IIS SEO Toolkit installer?

That way other people can install it without any issues or workaround too.

PS. The URL Rewriter installer was fixed recently.
