  • IIS 8 and its new restrictions on default documents on Windows 2012 R2

    OS: Windows 2012 R2 x64 EN
Web server: IIS 8.5.9600.16384 (short IIS)

The IIS allows the configuration of standard documents. However with R2 specific characters in the name of the standard document are not allowed anymore. As a result the character ? (question mark) can not be used.

For ISAPI modules this new restriction is not helpful. These modules are not just files but their call can be an URL as well. Sometimes our site is under maintenance and this is signaled to our users by changing the ISAPI call from: module.dll to module.dll?maintenance. With R2 this approach is not possible anymore. This just because of come characters that are now considered as being invalid. Please remove this limitation in R2. It is too restrictive and has no benefits.

    Thanks for your support.
