I have a website on IIS 6. The problem is whenever I tried to call the default page of the website in url directly, I got 401 Error message.
But if I call "http://mywebsite.com", it is fine. And another one thing that I've tested is, I made a copy of default.asp and named it "default1.asp".
When I tried "http://mywebsite.com/default1.asp", it is ok. No authentication error occurs.
I think something wrong in the setting of the default page of the website. But I have no idea what is that.
Your suggestions really appreciated.

Are you using any URL rewriting?

I'm not using that URL rewriting for the site.

If you didn't use URL rewrite rule, you could use substatus code to find more information about your issue. You could find the substatus code in "%SystemDrive%\inetpub\logs\LogFiles", or you could edit feature setting in 401 in error pages to change error
responses to detailed errors. After that, you could check the substatus code of the error which could help narrow down the issue.
You could find its troubleshooting in this KB:
Hope it helps.
