I think you have not installed the language you need.
By default asp and asp.net are not installed (they are *different* languages)

If you check IIS logs, what's detailed sub status code for the 500 error? I suggest you also enable detailed script error for asp requests which may show some clues:
%windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd set config -section:asp -scriptErrorSentToBrowser:true
The following article contains some general tips for classic asp developers:

Hope this helps, thanks.

You need to enable error details to troubleshoot.
500 internal server error is custom error that IIS sends to user.
In IIS manager, select website, Error Pages, Edit Feature Settings -> Detailed errors

Hi, I had the same issue on new servers, I believe Win2008R2 behavior has changed. But our problem is solved by workaround.
We have a "non-webdav" website and under this website we have a webdav directory mapped as a virtual directory.
1. You must enable WebDAV at web site root. You can do this in WebDAV authoring rules.
2. The real problem we had was that webDAV authoring rules was added at both website and virtual directory. Which gave us the following 500.16 internal server error: The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page
is invalid. Config Error Cannot add duplicate collection entry.
I believe this is a Win2008R2 IIS 7.5 issue. WebDAV authoring rules can not be set on both Website and virtual directory.
Hope this helps you!
