I installed the iis8 component of windows 8 and it's running (localhost brings up the default page in c:\inetpub\wwwroot), but I can't figure out how to open the iis manager to make changes.
Apparently, the "Turn Windows Features On" screen didn't install everything. I went back into it and there was a bunch of iis components that were still unchecked.
Interestingly enough, it installed enough to work, just not manage.
I have the same problem, we should report it to Microsoft although there is no effect because they knew it before they release this developer preview. i have tested the inetmgr.exe, the were no result.
I won't be able to post any logs, although someone else is welcome to.
On another note, I installed IIS on my windows 7 machine, at work, and a similar thing happened. I just clicked the IIS checkbox and it checked it as a square (instead of a check). There were a bunch of checkboxes that weren't checked, underneath.
If typing "inetmgr" in the Run (crtl + r) window doesn't work, you need to add the "IIS Management Console" under Windows Features / Internet Information Services / Web Management Tools.

Hello @ all,
Look for the Windows\iis8.logs along with Web Platform logs http://forums.iis.net/t/1178550.aspx .
Then create a new post the Web Platform Forum http://forums.iis.net/1155.aspx
post the logs you have gathered.
Then the Web Platform Team can use the logs to advise what to do about the problems.

I reformatted, last night, and put xp back on.

Hi @ JJ,
So your system at home it back to Windows XP.
So the current thread is still Windows 8 and IIS 8 Manager.
You have Windows 7 at work and installed the IIS 7.5 Features and have problems with IIS Manager.
The Windows 7 machine at work what are the User Access Permissions & Settings (UAC) ?
Do you access the Windows 7 machine at work using Remote Desk Top ?

If you install IIS manually through the Control Panel, you also have to install the Management Console.
Control Panel/Windows Features/Internet Information Services/Web Management Tools/IIS Management Console
Then in the desktop, right-click "Computer" and choose Manage and IIS will show up under Services.
Or go to the new Start screen and type: IIS
IIS 8 install console manage

If typing "inetmgr" in the Run (crtl + r) window doesn't work, you need to add the "IIS Management Console" under Windows Features / Internet Information Services / Web Management Tools.
