  • WebMatrix update released!

    Feb 18, 2011 12:36 PM|faith_a|LINK

Hi everybody, we just released an update of WebMatrix. This is a minor release to help address issues that folks have been reporting to us.

We've addressed the following issues based on customer feedback:

    1.    Keyboard shortcuts for cut, copy and paste break once international characters are entered when using the US+Intl keyboard layout.

    2.    WebMatrix fails when using redirected My Documents with certain configurations, such as a mapped drive that points to a share.

    3.    Applications using SQL CE fail with an exception “The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800736B1).”

    4.    When you have a version of MySQL installed that is not 5.1, publishing will fail.

    5.    You cannot install an application using a remote MySQL server.

We’ve added the following new behaviors:

    1.    Files can be switched to use UTF8 encoding instead of local code page. To toggle the mode, you can use the WebMatrix.exe command-line interface “WebMatrix.exe #ExecuteCommand# UTF8FallbackForPHP on” (or off). You can also modify the registry key to 0 or 1.
    x86 users: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WebMatrix\UTF8FallbackForPHP
    x64 users: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\WebMatrix\UTF8FallbackForPHP

    2.    IIS Express now checks any non-local paths (such as a network share or redirected My Documents) and configures polling as needed.

If you've never installed WebMatrix, click here to get started. If you have installed the RTW version, follow the below steps to upgrade:

    1.    Open the Web Platform Installer.

    2.    Add the WebMatrix product to your cart.

    3.    Click the Install button, and follow the steps to install WebMatrix and the updated dependencies.

We think you'll love the new release, and thank you for all your feedback, we appreciate it!

    Hello,

We released another update of WebMatrix on Monday – it is now at version 1.1. You can get it at any of these URLs:

    http://www.webmatrix.com/
    http://web.ms/
    http://www.microsoft.com/web/webmatrix

…or by running Web Platform Installer (if you already have it installed) and installing WebMatrix again.

This version adds support for automatic update notifications, the Customer Experience Improvement program (user instrumentation so we have better stats about WebMatrix usage) and file encoding support. It also fixes a handful of bugs reported by YOU, our great users, on our Microsoft Connect site.

    Hope you enjoy it!

Hmmm, not sure what you mean. The update we are referring to is an update of the WebMatrix client application you use to develop websites.

I have noticed a few suggestions that have been posted on Connect have been marked as resolved (even one of mine!), however they obviously don't appear in the update list above. Are we to expect a further update soon? Is there a rough timeline for releases? Fantastic product, I have moved from Dreamweaver to WebMatrix and haven't looked back.. Well Done Microsoft! (Y)
Dont forget to Mark as Answer if it has solved your problem!

    Hello,

Thank you for following up on those Connect postings! Those Connect items that were resolved as fixed should make their way into future public releases.

However, it will be a little bit longer before we have a timeline for our next public releases -- but rest assured we will announce them here.

Thanks for your continued use of WebMatrix - keep those bug reports coming!

    Simon,

About using Web Platform Installer and Webmatrix:
On 6/2/11 you say "add WebMatrix to cart" - and there is no cart in v.3.0... ?!??
6/14/11 you say "install WebMatrix again" - and there is no Update or even Remove option in Web Platform Installer... ?!??  Unbelievable!

Sorry, installing WebMatrix shouldn't be too complex - when you launch Web Platform Installer, you should see it in the Products category (or you can search for it). Then you can double-click to see the details and install straight from there, or click the "Add" button to add to a "cart" of items to install, which isn't visible until you click the "Install" button at the bottom of Web Platform Installer.

Now, if you actually already have any product installed, the "Add" button won't be available for that item - and Web Platform Installer doesn't currently have the facilities to uninstall products. Instead, you will need to use Windows "Programs and Features" or "Add/Remove Programs" to uninstall WebMatrix - at which point it should be available for installation again in Web Platform Installer.

Apologies for the confusion; hope that helps clarify!
