Drupal 6.19 update causing selective fastcgimodule 500.0 server error

I''ve got a multisite Drupal 6.19 setup with three sites in their own databases (sharing the same codebase). Ever since I updated from 6.17 to 6.19 I can no longer run cron successfully on any of the sites, and get a 500.0 server error (fastcgimodule, error
0x00000000). And on two of my three sites I now get this error when trying to view a node or create a node. Viewing nodes works on the third, however. It's as though some parts of the site (all administration pages, for example) work fine, but viewing nodes
and running cron results in the fastctimodule error. Prior to the upgrade, everything worked just fine.
Any ideas as to the culprit? Thanks for your help.

What kind of 500 error you are getting? Disable friendly error in IE and see the detailed mesage. If you are getting something like 'FastCGI process terminated unexpectedly' please look at the Windows Event Viewer and see if there is a crash report generated
for PHP-CGI.exe. Also check the PHP error log and see if there is anything getting logged.

I have a similar problem, but I am running only one Drupal 6.19 site. The 500.0 error I get is:
HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error
An unknown FastCGI error occured
Detailed Error Information
I tried to run PHP Manager and got the error message:
"The php.ini file cannot be found. Make sure PHP is correctly registered with IIS."
After I click on "OK" I am on the main "page" for PHP Manager, but the link to :Register new PHP version" is disabled.
The PHP directory is in the system PATH variable, and IUSR and IIS_IUSRS have permission to read and execute files in that directory, so I don't know why the php.ini file can't be found.
How can I fix the registration of PHP with IIS?
