I want to broadcast live video using IIS Smooth Streaming. But only Windows Media Encoder can be used as the primary video source encoder (there are some technical limitations). How can dock the two initially incompatible technology?
Personally, I see two ways:
1) Expression Encoder as a source accepts video streams from Windows Media Encoder (does not matter to pull or push). But, unfortunately, the source can be either a device or file.
2) IIS Smooth Streaming extension receives the video stream from the WMS and converts it into IIS Smooth Streaming format. Not sure if this is possible in general.
Is there anyone have any ideas how to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance for your advice...

It's going to be significantly easier if you use Expression Encoder as the Live Smooth Streaming encoding source. As you've found Windows Media Encoder 9 Series only creates a WMV stream for a Windows Media Services server. There is no direct way to convert
a live signal from a WMV stream (technically an ASF stream) into the fragmented MPEG-4 stream that Live Smooth Streaming requires. Additionally, Expression Encoder cannot use a stream as a source. It can only use a device or a file.
So what are the incompatibilities you mentioned?

I wish I could help; in my case, I also needed to send a live feed (Push) from a client PC to a Server 2008 IIS 7 using Smooth Streaming, we found that Microsoft doesn't sell the Expression Encoder Pro 4 alone, you would need to buy the $599.00 Studio version.
We see this as a limitation as we have a WordPress website and we only need to use the Encoder for Smooth Streaming because we saw the demos and we liked it.
At this point, we're force to use another Streaming Server unless someone can help us to resolve this.
Sorry for posting this message to your post, but we thought someone could read it and maybe they have found a solution e.g. third party software?

You will soon be able to buy Expression Encoder stand-alone as per
