I have this continual issue where people try to use Internet Explorer to use an FTP url to connect to the IIS 6.0 FTP server on windows 2003. Periodically they get an hour glass and a permissions rejection even though they have permissions via an FTP account to write to the directory they are targeting.

If we use WS_FTP as the client everything will work fine all the time.

I have read that this is because of network packets being dropped by the FTP client/server transaction and then it's unable to reestablish the connection with the client.

We have also started to get contribute and dreamweaver problems in FTP connectivity. Those seem to be caused by bad software.

    has anyone experienced anything similiar?

In other words, if you use a *real* FTP client everything works perfectly. So you can rule out IIS as the cause of these problems.

Maybe you are seeing this behaviour ?
