I am trying to remove IP security from IIS but I keep getting this error in IE when clearing the granted and denied screens in the "IP Address and Domain Name restrictions".
I get this error if I am on a workstation, from the server, using localhost or the IP address.
If I put the workstation address back into the denied except for then it works. However this is not a working solution.
Any ideas what I have missed?

You would clear IIS security settings in the IIS Manager applet, not in IE.

It sounds like you are denying all IP addresses except for the list you provide - if that list is empty then all connections will be refused. You should select granted access except for and then enter the IP addresses you wish to block :

If I am right to presume that if both the "accept except for" and the "deny except for" screens in "IIS" are empty.. and I can promise you they are, all IP's should be accepted.
This is not the case and IIS is denying all IP's.

If the list is empty and yet you have 'Denied access' ticked then logically you are telling IIS to deny access to the whole world except for the empty list below. IIS will duly follow that insruction and deny access to all IP addresses (including localhost)
and your web site will be inaccessible to the whole world, including you.

Thanks Paul... I finally got it... never noticed that the denied access and allow access was doing one or the other. I presumed I had to configure both.

That's OK. Glad you got it figured out in the end.

I receive a HTTP 403.6 - Forbidden: IP address rejected when trying to access web pages from the outside. I have a list of granted domain names with IP Adress but still receiving HTTP 403.6 - Forbidden: IP address rejected when trying to view my home page
from the outside. How do you configure IIS 6 to view web pages from the outside without receiving a HTTP 403.6 - Forbidden: IP address rejected message?

You start with looking at "how to make your server public"
