I am trying to server up a Ruby on Rails app on our development server (Server 2008) and have followed the directions here, http://hotgazpacho.org/2009/02/rails-230-iis7-fastcgi-rails-on-windows-ftw/. But with no luck so far. I am currently getting a 500 - Internal Server Error when I try to access the application. If I run, C:\ruby\bin\ruby.exe C\path\to\my\app\public\dispatch.fcgi, at the command line I get the correct response. It also works if I run WEBrick and access it via the webbrowser. So, I was wondering if there was a way to get a more detailed error message than what is given in the 500 error message. Thanks, Aaric

You get a detailed error message if you make the request against http://localhost. if you can't do this you can do the following:

    c:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe set config -section:httpErrors -errorMode:Detailed

For security reasons make sure you reset this to DetailedLocalOnly when you fixed the problem.

    C:\Windows\system32>c:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe set config -section:h
    ttpErrors -errorMode:DetailedLocalOnly

If this doesn't help you can turn on Request Tracing:

    http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/266/troubleshooting-failed-requests-using-tracing-in-iis7/

    Hope this helps.
