I'm developping a application that tests many pages of my web platform. One of my websites has a basic authetification process, that simply uses the "Basic authentification" of IIS 6.
This website works perfectly, and the "test application" that checks every 3 minutes if the website is up or down too (Asp.net WebRequest and NetworkCredential for auth.).
But sometimes (ramdomly, about 1 time every 3 or 4 days, sometimes more), my "test application" shows me an error by calling the home page of this website. I get the following error (by logging the content of the WebRequest result) :
"You are not authorized to view this page
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied because your Web browser is sending a WWW-Authenticate header field that the Web server is not configured to accept.
HTTP Error 401.2 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to server configuration.Internet Information Services (IIS) "
The only way i found to go back to a normal situation is ti restart IIS service.
Does anybody have some idea of what happens with my server?

When this occurs it is usually due to a network and/or proxy issue rather than IIS. Read this article for more information :
