Hi, I'm new to this forum but have been using IIS for awhile. Recently, I noticed some strange errors when accessing my asp pages on my machine. It's XP SP2. The errors started to happen a few months ago and we never had any problems before that. The
machine has IIS, Tomcat servlet and ArcIMS (web mapping software)
I started to look at a few things in the Windows Application, Security and System Event logs. First, I noticed this error in the Security log:
Logon Failure:
Reason: The user has not been granted the requested
logon type at this machine
User Name: IUSR_W-CAC8AA982A384
Domain: W-CAC8AA982A384
Logon Type: 3
Logon Process: IIS
Authentication Package: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0
Workstation Name: W-CAC8AA982A384
The server was unable to logon the Windows NT account 'IUSR_W-CAC8AA982A384' due to the following error: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer. The data is the error code.
For additional information specific to this message please visit the Microsoft Online Support site located at:
http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.
So, I've tried to reinstall everything and scoured the web using google and I have not found something that works. I am not an expert on this, but I usually can figure things out. Could it be a change in our IT security settings or a port problem (not
that I know how to fix a port problem). The only solution i have right now is that when this occurs, I restart IIS and everything works until it happens again. it happens a couple times a day. Any ideas?
That is exactly the problem and I came accross it last night as I was comparing two machines. Our IT dept. runs a script that changes the security policyby wiping out all IUSR and IWAMS account settings after midnight every night. So, this is why when I
come in to work, the website is inaccessible. I've put in a call to our support and will ask them to change the security policy on my machine. We'll see what happens. Thanks for the reply.

Check the local security policies, make sure the IUSR account has been granted the user right to access from the network.
