A new recurrent problem has recently started on one our servers. An administrator connects to the server using terminal services and starts IIS Manager to modify the properties of a virtual directory. While he modifies virtual directory, the World Wide Web
Publishing Service suddenly shuts down without any warning. This has happen 4 times in the past few weeks to different administrators while changing the IP restrictions for a virtual directory.
When this happens, a new log entry is added to the system event log:
"The World Wide Web Publishing Service service was successfully sent a stop control."
The user associated to the event entry is the administrator that is currently using IIS Manager. The service does not restart by itself; we have to start it manually.
The server runs Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP3. The Virtual Directories are for ASP.NET web applications (2.0).
Do you have any idea of what can be the cause for that and how to solve it?
