When i try to connect to http://localhost on a windows SBS 2003 I get a "Page can not be displayed" message immediately. W3svc is running, I have stoped and started IIS. I can open the file C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Default.htm in
explorer (but none of the links work). Windows firewall is not running and the service is stopped. I can ping 127.0.0.1 and Localhost. I can telnet to 127.0.0.1 on port 80.
There are no entries in the WWW log or in the eventviewer when i try to connect (from the local machone).
Any assistance would be great.

Sorry i should have mentioned that if I trun off "friendly messages" the page remains blank when i try to connect.

You sure the program binding to port 80 is IIS?
can you check the service status? try iisreset ?
if it is, then get wfetch, query http://localhost/ then post the output here.
