    We keep getting FastCGI Errors and can't seem to nail down why. Running IIS6, Win 2003 32-bit, php 4.4.8, connecting to separate mysql 4.1.22 db box with same config.

    We usually see at between 2500 - 5000 users on at any time. Web Service extention for FastCGI is correctly pointing to the inetsrv folder, and here are the config settings for ffcgiext.ini

    [PHP]
    ExePath=c:\php\php.exe
    InstanceMaxRequests=10000
    EnvironmentVars=PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUESTS:10000

    Here is the error users are getting:

    FastCGI Error
    The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request.

    Error Details:

    * The FastCGI process has failed frequently recently. Try the request again in a while
    * Error Number: -2147467259 (0x80004005).
    * Error Description: Unspecified error

    HTTP Error 500 - Server Error.
    Internet Information Services (IIS)

    Thanks for any/all help!

    This post shows a bug, but the bottom post mentions permissions related to the isapi and EXE processes.

    Sorry but confused how that is a clue to solving the problem...? From that link it looks like a mysterious intermittent bug that is not solved, just leaving me more mystified... I have read/execute on both files. I did just change IIS to integration - but since it is intermittent, will have to wait on a response from the users... Should I give more perms to fastcgi, etc?

    Ok - it's been about 24 hrs since I made the IIS integrated windows authentication site change and a user just reported it again... not easy tracking this down. Any other ideas?

    If a person logs in using windows integrated security, the user account probably doesn't have permission.  I would enable auditing for object failures and monitor the security event log.  I would get the user account that was having an issue and see if you can reproduce the issue.

    hmmm well it would figure that the only user that should be logging in then should be iusr_hostname and I gave that user read/exe permissions throughout the site and on the WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\fcgiext*, php.exe and .dlls but that didn't seem to help either... I gave up and running isapi for the time being - but that is too slow and having trouble configuring it to run php4 and php5 concurrently...

    So now we've got FastCGI running again pretty smoothly and I wanted to share what we did to fix it... Configuration before in fcgiext.ini was:

    w3bgrl

    [PHP]
    ExePath=c:\php\php.exe
    InstanceMaxRequests=10000
    EnvironmentVars=PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUESTS:10000

    Since changing it to:

    w3bgrl

    [PHP] ExePath=c:\php4\php.exe
    Arguments="-c c:\php4\php.ini"
    InstanceMaxRequests=10000
    ActivityTimeout=1800
    This is a vBulletin site and we haven't had any issues from users... and I haven't seen any myself well, except other than a timeout on a script that was pulling from a table in a db that the table itself was 4.7gbs... I also adjusted the memory limit and timeout in the vbulletin config file, as well as the max_execution_time in php.ini to 120. HTH :)

    I'm very new to Ruby and just trying to set it up on my IIS6/W2K3 server alongside the .Net apps I'm used to, so please forgive me if I haven't done enough research.

    I've gone through the idiot guide to setting up RoR4IIS, mostly without error but with some quite obvious ones, and got to the stage where I should be ready to test with my first app.

    The guide tells me I should request http://localhost:81/test/about but whe I do I get this -2147467259 Error.

    Stumbling around the responses I found here I've altered permissions and added PHP to my fcgiext.ini file, but the error keeps coming.

    Curiously the log file is showing the requests all served normally with resulting 200 codes, even thought he response delivered was a 500 error.

    My first foray into Ruby-on-Rails doesn't seem to be going too well :(
