Displaying images that do not have a file extension

I am trying to deploy my ASP.NET 2.0 application without much success. The application works on my local machine. However, when I promote it to my testing server, it does not work. I believe it has to deal with mime-types, but I'm not sure what I need
to add. Here is the scenario that is causing the problem.
I have inherited a bunch of preexisting image files. These image files are in a subdirectory called "images". This subdirectory belongs to the web application. The problem is, none of the image files have file extensions :(. To compound the problem,
some are .jpg, some .png and some .gif files. Because of this, I cannot just rename them. The good news is, I am guaranteed that they are all image files.
I am trying to just display these image files in HTML IMG elements. This works fine on my development machine. Unfortunately, it does not work when I promote it to the testing machine. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

The web page renders just fine. However, the img tags will not display the actual images. Instead, the alternate text shows with an "x" indicating the file cannot be found. I have confirmed that the file does exist though.
