Load User Profile in IIS 6.0

I am not the programmer but will try to explain what we have going on. Our web client changed in our recent release to write our client files to the users profile store in order to help comply with Vista and 2008. To do this the code is looking to the
Environment.GetFolderPath (Environment.SpecialFolder.LocalApplicationData) in order to determine the location to write application folder and contained config/log files.
in IIS 7.0 I could get this to work fine by selecting the apppools load profile boolen option. It will even create the users profile path if it does not exist ( User has never logged on to server before ). However in IIS 6.0 this call will always return
blank and our folder gets wrote to c:\ root and our application fails. I have read on other posts that IIS 6.0 has no way of loading the user profile for the app pool identity.
Can anyone else offer advice or recommend a better/proper way to do this?
