Console unable to connect

I've got a strange bug that appears occasionally on random servers in my web farm (IIS 6). The bug can appear after minutes or months of operation. When I try to open IIS manager on the local machine, it takes a good 20 or 30 seconds to appear and when
it opens, it hasn't connected to anything. If you try to connect to the local machine, it says it's unable to connect. The same thing happens when you try and connect to the server remotely from another machine. The web services are working fine on the
box in question, it's just that you can't connect to IIS to manage it. The only way to get it working again is to restart the IIS services. It's annoying!
Does anyone know if there's a fix for this?

Do you have loopback adapters on your server?
