  • Error when virtual directory contains a dot (.) in it's name

     Hi,

     I have couple of virtual directories on my dev. machine declared since a while and all were doing it's job. Today I realized that  those which conatin a dot in their names don't work, i.e. I'm getting an error when trying to access resources in a browser:

    <div class="content-container">
    Error Summary

    HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found

    The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

    </div>
    Detailed Error Information<div id="details-left">
    Module IIS Web Core
    Notification MapRequestHandler
    Handler StaticFile
    Error Code 0x80070002
    </div> <div id="details-right">
    Requested URL http://localhost/Rejected-By-UrlScan?~/euro-hostel.pl/
    Physical Path C:\inetpub\wwwroot\Rejected-By-UrlScan
    Logon Method Anonymous
    Logon User Anonymous
    </div>

    Can I somehow configure IIS to allow dots in virtual directories names? All other virtual directories work ok.

     My physical paths to virtual directory are not C:\inetpub\wwwroot\... but I'm 100% percent sure it is correct in IIS Manager.

    Recently I installed .net 3.5 SP1 and VS 2008 sp1 (both betas) and IIs administration pack.

     I'm working on Vista x64, IIS 7.0

    Anybody can help?

    Requested URL http://localhost/Rejected-By-UrlScan?~/euro-hostel.pl/

    Look in your URLScan.ini for allowdotinpath.  Set it to 1.  Or stop using dots in folder names.

    Have you Binged a solution before posting?

     Thank you, I wasn't aware that UrlScan is a tool that I must have installed before somehow, now the error message is clear and problem gone.
