Hi, I manage a number of webfarms (2 machines each, iis6, 3GB ram) with about 50 sites each. I have a single set of machines in which each app has a 400MB virtual size as soon as it starts up. Setting a recycling limit of anything over 400MB stops constant
recycles due to low virtual memory but the same sites on a different machine (configured identically) only uses 100-200MB virtual memory... Does anyone have any ideas on why the sites would just jump to 400MB???

Have you by any chance run with pageheap for some previous investigation and left it enabled? (I assume the answer is no but I couldn't resist to ask).
If those applications are native code then you could use UMDH to compare pattern of allocations between two machines.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/268343
