I am running w2k Server with all latest patches. Also runs exchange 2k and IIS 5. I have deleted the server certificate for the default web site using mmc certificates addin (it was out of date so thought it was quickest way, how stupid was that?). Unfortunately
now whenever I try to browse an HTTPS page I get error message about site not available. I have tried going into IIS Admin console and right clicking the web site then properties - Directory Security and clicking Server certificate, but the first couple of
time you do this I get thrown straight out of iis admin, further attempts to get to the server certificate page just hangs iis admin leaving me to crash it via task manager. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this issue please?
Thanks in advance

Thankjs for getting back to me. I have just tried setting up a new website as per the article, but again as soon as I click on the Server certificate button under directory Security for this site the IIS admin program
closes down so I can never actually get to requesting a new certificate.

Close down ? as in crash ? MMC crash ? no error msgs ? event log ?

Close down as if you had clicked the X button to close the program. No error messages, no event log, no clues!!. I have run the ssl diags program, and it does confirm that I have deleted the server certificate, but as I can't get into the IIS directory security
- Server certificate page I can't request another one.

so when you click the button for property it just sit there with no dialog box popup ? or it just hung and you have to killed it ?

The first couple of attempts the iis screens just close down (dissappear) and you have to restart IIS Admin. It will then just hang as soon as you click on the Server certificate button. I then have to start task manager and kill the application.

Yike!! that's tough with no error msgs :)
Can you ensure the system is patch up to date, no virus etc?
Not sure how to proceed without clear error msgs on what went wrong.
