I have a problem with launching IIS5.1 on WINXP SP2.
IIS console cannot be opened, or not responding. Each time I click the IIS console a mmc.exe is run, of course, but no IIS console pop up.
Same situation for metaedit.exe, seems running, but nothing pop up.
IIS shall have been running, I can view the website on my computer by type the full http address, but other computer still cannot access my website. I could not open IIS console since I restarted the computer after installing IIS, hence I could not make
further modification to the IIS setting. Port 80 is not occupied by other program.
I did format, reinstall windows and IIS, windows updates again and again over 20 times but still don't know what's wrong with my IIS.
My websites used to be working properly until I format my HD a month ago.
Can anyone give me some suggestions or share with me your similar cases? Thanks a lot!

Check the event logs.

Nothing special on the event logs.
By the moment the IIS console cannot be opened after restart my window, other cannot access my website.
I'm wondering if the problem is related to Windows Firewall and I'm now investigating into it, but still no idea.

I'm thinking that either your IIS metabase is corrupt or your mahcine name is different so IIS can not read the old metabase. If you do not have a backup, you'll probably need to uninstall IIS, completely delete the \windows\system32\inetsrv folder (so
metabase.bin is removed), and reinstall.
