  • Slow or NO after IIS 5.1 install

    Sep 05, 2006 08:18 AM|TwistEdFish|LINK

    <div class="uwePostText">Greetings All,
I have just upgraded to WinXP pro in order to run IIS on my system. When
installed, system is extremely slow to reboot. Attempting to start any
program after reboot finalizes, results in no response I can do this to 4 or
5 or even more programs with no luck at all.

THEN I try to reboot the system to try again and as soon as I click the
RESTART button all programs I have attempted to start suddenly open all at
the same time like suddenly all system resources have become available again</div><div class="uwePostText">just as the computer is shutting down for reboot. This has
become very annoying because if I don't wait for say 10 minutes or more after
a very slow reboot to attempt to open any program this same problem returns
and is so bad I cant even get on internet to look for help on the subject.

Anyone have any ideas I can try to rid myself of this issue? my situation is
I was originally running win xp home with all microsoft updates in place. I
upgraded to XP pro then ran auto update found and installed 52 updates.
Reinstalled the latest WMP and IE then rebooted, no probs at all system
started lightning fast and ran smoother than ever.

Then I installed IIS 5.1 from XP pro cd using add or remove windows
components, rebooted system and the problem started immediately. My system
stats are as follows I hope this info isn't total over kill but I never had
such a problem and want to be sure I give any assistance in working to a
solution, Any more info or questions please let me know.

Question: Did you install Pro OVER Home? Or did you boot from cd, delete the current partition and thin install PRO?

For some reason, I have had better PRO installs by deleting the current partition in the initial stages of setup instead of just "Intalling a fresh Copy" over a current partition.

I would uninstall IIS 5.1 and try agian.

Run the add/remove windows component, uncheck Internet Information Services to uninstall IIS and then reboot.

Check to see your system was restored back to original. If it was, try installing IIS again

Yes I did install Pro over home, well did an upgrade not an install. I have removed IIS from the system 3 times now and the system returns to its normal run state, Smooth and flawless but immediately upon reinstalling IIS the problem again returns. I'm thinking my purchase of this XP Pro just to run IIS on my system was a really nice waste of 100 bucks. I actually accomplished more when working with Xampp's windows package for the Apache server. im still messing with it my self treying to see what is slowing me down but services are not using the resources WELL not visible services anyway im using Procexp to keep an eye on them. System idle stays at basically 99% and nothing steps above .74 %.

I'm at a loss myself but I will keep hunting for the problem as now it has become an obsession to not let this machine defeat me.
