  • Cannot Connect to IIS Server in Remote Machine using Non-Administrator

    Dec 16, 2019 01:14 PM|info@sierratec.com|LINK

    Hi All,

I am having a Window Server 2019 Standard machine running IIS 10.0.

I want to provide remote administration for IIS to some of the power users.

To achieve this I have installed the IIS Manager for Remote Administration 1.2 from the URL: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41177

I am able to connect to remote server if I login as a domain administrator.

But for other users who are not part of Administrators group, while trying to connect the remote IIS machine I get alert message:

Could not connect to the specified computer.

Details : The remote computer returned and error (401).

    Unauthorized.

Please help to solve the issue.

Note: I seen that there is one post already in the same topic before one year but not answered. So starting as a new thread.

    With Thanks and Regards,

    Giridhar JG

No, you cannot in general. Microsoft only designed a mechanism (years ago) called feature delegation where a limited set of users (often not the power users in your definition) might be able to manage IIS remotely,

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/iis/manage/remote-administration/configuring-remote-administration-and-feature-delegation-in-iis-7

There was some new approach https://github.com/microsoft/iis.administration But it didn't solve the fundamental problems IMHO.

    Hi,

Is your power user from domain group? if yes then you can assign the permission to that user to access the site remotely. but you can not access the whole iis server if your does not exist from administrator group.

You could refer this below link for more detail:
