    OS: Windows Server 2012 R2 (Version 6.2; Build 9200)
    IIS: Version 8.5.9600.16384)

Hello. I moved our WordPress site from an external host to our local server, using IIS. The website works okay, but I lost my ability to log into the control panel to make changes. The username/password I used when it was externally hosted does not work. When attempting to reset my password I receive an error message indicating "The email could not be sent. Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function."
I tried setting up an smtp email using the typical "smtp.office365.com" on port 587 and entered the appropriate credentials, but not sure where to go from here. I am neither a WordPress nor IIS guru, so this is all uncharted territory for me.

Greetings. Thank you for the reply. I have not found anyone in the WordPress forum who has been able to assist me. Essentially, this appears to be an IIS configuration issue rather than an operation/functional WordPress problem. Primarily, setting IIS up for smtp email.

I wrote a post about PHP on IIS,

As long as you can run any PHP page (phpinfo.php for example) on IIS, then your IIS configuration is OK.

PHP or WordPress has tons of their own settings that can affect you, but that's out of scope of an IIS forum.

Thank you for your reply. I will see how I might re-word my question in the WordPress forum. Your blog post was very informative. Thanks.
