Guys, this looks really cool https://manage.iis.net/get. But how exactly is it working? It seems we get an access code that allows us use a cloud service to manage our environment with Rest calls via a proxy extension
Would this assumption be correct?

https://manage.iis.net uses the Microsoft IIS Administration API installed on the IIS machine to configure IIS instance.
The API is a micro service that runs on the target machine, so by nature it is meant to serve remote requests.
Please check below Introduction to Microsoft IIS Administration API for more information.

AH! I read the link you send. So in essence:
Is this understanding correct? if so, is the application at https://manage.iis.net available
on prem? I have deployed the RestAPI to all our IIS servers and its great but our ITSEc team won't allow us access to https://manage.iis.net so
we are exploring the APIs using Postman etc.

Yes, you could call the IIS Administration API as normal rest api to mananger your IIS. Below is the API list
And here is the simply testing using Postman.
