I am relatively new to web install, but I installed Web Platform Installer 5.0 in October 2017 successfully, and was able to publish to the website. But November seems to have brought on a number of changes and getting Web Platform installed on a new server
is nothing but grief. There seems no end of
prerequisite. The latest is "Visual Studio 2015, Service Pack 2" Which VS? enterprise, professional, team? No instructions on that requirement. Currently I am just uploading VS 2017 enterprise. Which is total overkill. I think they can remove the promotion
that this is a "Lite" install 8 gig and counting.
So am I missing something with the Web Platform Installer? Currently loading to an Azure Cloud Server, IIS 10 installed with a functioning website. So far I have installed
the following as required for prereq's.
Update. VS 2017 enterprise did not meet the requirements. It turns out the final requirement is

What do you mean install web platform installer and publish to website? It should not publish anything or
Web platform installer haven't been changed for a long time. I'm a bit confused about what do you want to do in web platform installer. If you need to install the new version of visual studio or related feature, it is recommended to download and install
from Microsoft official website. WPI doesn't provide a perquisite for the software and you could only click 'more information' to check the dependency.
WPI doesn't provide the vs 2017 and visual studio should not have a dependency for IIS or WPI. So maybe you could consult the visual studio forum for further help.

I am trying to install the program, Web Platform Installer, current version 5.0. The previous version I used in October was version 4.6. So it has changed. The purpose of the program is be able to publish a web site straight from my local development
computer to the Web Server. In both cases I was installing onto a brand new Azure cloud environment.
When installing version 5.0, there is a popup window stating that Visual Studio 2015 sp2 was required to continued. It had a link. The link pointed to a page with 4 different versions of Visual Studio 2017. I picked the most expensive one, 2017 enterprise,
and completed the download. Which did not fix the problem.
I finally dug up a copy of Visual Studio 2015, sp2, loaded it on the web server, which allowed me to continue past the block and actually load the required components using Web Platform Installer.

Thanks for posting - WebPI (the core product) definitely does not require VS or anything else (outside of the .NET Framework) to be installed. Are you trying to install something inside of WebPI that required VS? If you have screenshots of WebPI install
itself requests VS, I'd love to take a look
