We have a script which sets the OverrideMode property on /system.webserver/security/authentication/windowsAuthentication to "Allow". Where is that setting physically stored? We don't see that property specifically called out in the applicationHost.config
file. Is it stored in a different file? Here are the commands similar to what we use to get the current setting as well as set it to something new.
$Filter = "/system.webserver/security/authentication/windowsAuthentication"
$PSPath = "machine/webroot/apphost"
$Metadata = "overrideMode"
$Value = "Allow"
# Get current setting
Get-WebConfiguration -Filter $Filter -PSPath $PSPath -Metadata | select *
# Set to Allow
Set-WebConfiguration -Filter $Filter -PSPath $PSPath -Metadata $Metadata -Value $Value

It really depends on which applicationHost.config file you are reading. Mine definitely has this property,

I think this should be the right command to set the overridemode for windows authentication by create a section with< path= site overridemode =allow>.
