  • Re: Failure on trying to install Media Services 2008 R2 on Windows 2008 R2

Hi, Florian. Let me clarify. The currently available version of Windows Media Services 2008 R2 (WMS) is the Release Candidate (build 7100). It will only install on (or in other words, the update will only apply to) the Release Candidate of Windows Server 2008 R2 (also build 7100). If I understand correctly...

  • Re: Windows Media

Hi, Roger, That is a concise summary! :-) I'd make just two clarifications, both to your last sentence: Windows Media audio and video files can be downloaded intact and played; progressively downloaded and played (playing starts even while the content is still downloading, typically from a Web server...

  • Re: Windows Media Service avi problem

Hi, gkhniis, WMS supports streaming of .asf, .wma, .wmv, .jpg, .jpeg, and .mp3 file types. Unfortunately, it does not support .wav or .avi files. Please see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731194.aspx for more information. If you don't mind me asking, where did the quoted file types...

  • Re: IIS 7.0 vs Windo Media Service

Hi, VA, Answers to your questions... 1. WMS can provide the older Intelligent Streaming feature, but to get the latest adaptive streaming functionality, you will need IIS Smooth Streaming running on IIS 7.0. 2. Currently, Microsoft Expression Encoder 2 SP1 is required to create IIS Smooth Streaming content...

  • Re: How to Config Window Media Service streaming over HTTP port 80?

Hi, Seatac, It sounds as if you have set this up properly for running IIS and WMS side-by-side. I think there may be another issue at play here, which can happen in some situations when your WMS 2008 server is behind a NAT firewall, proxy server, or load balancer. Please see this MSDN blog post for information...

  • Re: Inconsistent access to Windows Media Server files

Hi, Mike, It turns out that this can happen in some situations when your WMS 2008 server is behind a NAT firewall, proxy (e.g. ISA), or load balancer. Please see this MSDN blog post for information on how to resolve this. Let us know if this helps... -Chris

  • WMS on 2008 settiong up cache/proxy

When setting up a cache/proxy media server for broadcast or on-demand, do you need to create publishing points? I understand you would do so on the origin server, and that on the origin server you would configure the cache/proxy plugin for each publishing point. But when configuring a cache/proxy media...

  • Re: wsx file not being server in IIS7

Hi, Jhorra, A .wsx playlist is a Windows Media Services (WMS) server-side playlist - are you trying to stream this playlist from IIS using WMS? If you can provide more details about what you are trying to accomplish, that would really help. -Chris
