Hiya. I'm hoping someone might be able to send me some sample code or point me towards a tutorial or blog post... I've just dived into the world of Windows Media Services. For a current project I need to be able to restrict access to certain WMV files housed upon a streaming media server. For...

Of course, but Silverlight cannot handle MBR streams, does not have a controls.currentAudioLanguage property that gives you the LCID of the audio language that currently plays in a multilingual stream, and of course a Smooth Streaming video (that is the future) cannot be streamed from WMS. I don't...

Hi Vishal. I am the administrator of an Internet only Station. The streaming is based on Windows Media Services and SSPL that are combining recorded videos and Live broadcasts. A common scenario using the WMS. But... we want to get rid of the Embedded Media Player and replace it with Silverlight and...

  • Web Playlists

Hi, I've tried today the web playlists functionality of IIS Media Services 3.0 Beta. Unfortunately I didn't found anything that can be used instead of the simulated live functionality of server side playlists of Windows Media Services, like wallclock. Am I missing something? Is it something that...

One follow-up: the course Configuring and Managing Windows Media Services might also be useful. This is a two-day instructor-led course based on Windows Media Services 2008. -Chris

Hi, Joeri, I think you are referring to the Windows Media Resource Kit . Most of the concepts still apply in 2008, so I still recommend it as a great resource. Specific download and installation instructions for Windows Media Services 2008 are in Knowledge Base (KB) Article 934518 . Additional material...

  • Changing the deafult path of WMROOT

As a rule, we prefer to store content on our server's non-system drive (E:\) but when I run the "Add Publishing Point" wizard and get to the "File Location" dialog it always defaults to the "C:\WMPub\WMRoot" folder. Is there a way to change this to another location?...

  • Books about Windows Media Services 2008

I couldn't find any books about Windows Media Services 2008 on Amazon. I found only old books from 2003. Does somebody knows good sites or good tutorials to install and config the Windows Media Services 2008 ?

  • Intelligent Streaming

I have a question. I read in a post that if the video streamed from a WMS is Multiple-Bit-Rate Encoded, if played in a Silverlight media element then only the highest Bitrate stream is played and there is no automatic switching to a lower bit rate stream. If this is true does it mean that Microsoft is...
