Hey! I've Installed WebMatrix on a virtual server running IIS7 and then created an install of Wordpress on the localhost no problem whatsoever.
HOWEVER I can't install any additional themes or plugins because I getan "WP HTTP Error: connect() timed out!" error message from within wordpress & a very vague "500.0 Internal Server Error" in the requests page of WebMatrix.
Any ideas how to rectify the problemo? Have Googled & help filed the ass off this one but no luck.

Take a look at this. Someone solved the same error:

For the 500 error double check that you've disabled 'Show Friendly Errors' in your browser.

Hey, I'd come across both those resolution on my travels BUT it didn't fix my problem I'm afraid.
Here's the error in WebMatrix:
and this is what I get in my otherwise fully functioning Wordpress install:
