Smooth Streaming Client SDK for Metro Style Apps Announcement & Feedback

We are very excited to announce and release a Beta of Microsoft Smooth Streaming Client SDK for Windows 8 Metro Style Applications. Smooth Streaming Client SDK Beta 1 enables developers to build Windows 8 Metro Style applications that consume On-Demand and Live Smooth Streaming content w/ PlayReady protection. This extension SDK is available for download from Visual Studio Gallery – Microsoft Smooth Streaming Client SDK Beta 1 for Windows 8

Hi, I have installed the extension SDK and tried to reproduce the XAML-based Metro style application as described here http://playerframework.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Windows%208%20Metro%20Player%3a%20Install%20and%20configure%20-%20XAML%2fC&referringTitle=Windows%208%20Metro%20Player%20Documentation The .wmv sample works well but when I try to use Smooth Streaming support I obtain the following error building the solution: Error 1 Manifest references file 'SSMFPluginM.dll' which is not part of the payload. Am I missing something? Thanks, Davide

Found the trick, just modify the content of Package.appxmanifest with the following and it works:

<Extensions>
    <Extension Category="windows.activatableClass.inProcessServer">
      <InProcessServer>
        <Path>Microsoft.Media.SmoothStreaming.dll</Path>
        <ActivatableClass ActivatableClassId="Microsoft.Media.SmoothStreaming" ThreadingModel="both" />
      </InProcessServer>
    </Extension>
</Extensions>

@Jonas currently audio only is not supported. It's on our backlog but would be happy to hear more about the scenario you are wanting to use this for.

@JamesWC, currently off-line mechanism is not supported but it's on our backlog for upcoming releases.

The samples works well, thanks. It would be more helpful to support off-line cache mechanisam (as desktop version SSME ISmoothStreamingCache) for the work.

Hi Vsood,

I used this site PlayReady DRM resource, it can be played by this release beta.

But if I use my testing resource, it will get MF_MEDIA_ENGINE_ERR_SRC_NOT_SUPPORTED error message...

Is this the known issue for certain video format or something that is really not support ?

I've double check this symptom on Windows Phone 7, the smooth streaming media element can play my testing resource.
