We have video assets with AC3/DTS audio streams and want to use Smooth streaming/Apple HLS to provide streaming with multi channel.
I think Silverlight won't support multi channel audio. Is there any other way around?
I am looking for both online streaming and offline playback solution. I see few encoders which supports AC3/Dolby Digital Plus output. But, not sure whether Smooth streaming/HLS supports them.
If they support AC3/Dolby Digital Plus through streaming, will Silverlight "pass-through" AC3 stream, so that A/V receivers can play it?
Based on my search on different forums/MSDN, Silverlight won't support multi channel audio. It will downmix to stereo. Eventhough Expression Encoder SP2 has SRS 5.1 feature, I am not sure whether Silverlight will support it or not.
If we prepare MP4 file with AC3 audio (using third party encoder), will IIS Transform Manager convert it to Smooth streaming format/Apple HLS format?
Waiting for some confirmation/help as we are stuck with the encoding.
did-you find if ac-3 (Dolby Digital) / ec-3 (Dolby Digital Plus) are supported in the smoothstreaming protocol, and if there are some players available to play them. I tried the last player from codeplex on windows 7 without success with a live smoothstreaming
stream with ac3 audio. And searching for informations in the microsoft(s) site(s) gives mainly links of unanswered questions, but very few informations of what is really supported ...

Just to update this thread with my findings:
