We have had a couple of instanaces where a CMS running under IIS has not been responding.
The system log shows the following events:
16/08/2010 21:39:12 - Event ID 5074 - A worker process with process id of '4008' serving application pool 'www.oursite.com' has requested
a recycle because the worker process reached its allowed processing time limit.
17/08/2010 00:15:05 - Event ID 5010 - A process serving application pool 'www.oursite.com'
failed to respond to a ping. The process id was '1404'.
Between these two times, alerts were generated for the site via our monitoring software and it is not clear if the site was operational
20/06/2010 08:37:38 – Event ID 5074 – A worker process with process id of '2292' serving application pool 'www.oursite.com'
has requested a recycle because the worker process reached its allowed processing time limit.
20/06/2010 09:58:29 – Event ID 5010 - A process serving application pool 'www.oursite.com'
failed to respond to a ping. The process id was '5740'.
From what I can see in both cases the second event is to ‘monitor the health of the worker process’. As the check failed, this event may
have triggered a shutdown of the process that was not responding. The next web request would have generated a new worker process and the web site would have started working again.
I have researched this problem but cannot find anything specific that resolves the issue.
Can anyone shed any light on the issue?

Event 5074 isn't an error. The setting is in application pool's property to let IIS auto recycles a pool when it runs for a specified time. Event 5010 does indicate there is potential hang symptom for web application running in the pool. You can refer to
below article about how to launch debugdiag to troubleshoot a hang case.
