    Hi,

IIS isn't available in XP Home. You will need to upgrade to XP Professional.

Also, you wouldn't be able to natively remote desktop into it which is pretty useful! Suppose maybe you could with some third party software!?!

    But yeah, try pro!

hmm, might be some of my problems not having the pro version, but I loaded IIS 5.1, and then the additional 6.0 peices MS provides. MS Saying it will still say 5.1 though.and the PHP fast CGI and then went to Admin add remove pgm add remove windows componets and turned on some more functions such as FTP, etc. the whole lot as far as I know, haven't really received any compatability errors speifically with that, might just be unsupported on the home. just seem to be getting security errors when the pages try to perform certain functions. one attached below.

Required] XE installation path or ./files directory's permission must be 707

I suppose id have to put it thru debug, i need to dig out some docs, or the event log on those 3 digit error # or something to really figure it out.

Yes, you need to have XP Pro to be able to run IIS 5.1.  At this point to could also upgrade to Vista or Win 7 to have IIS 7 - just don't get the lowest version.

thanks. they must just give you enough so you can develope to some degree. Do they have 32 bit versions of Win 7? Some Websites I lknow require 2003 or 2008. But 2003 is 64 as far as I know. And not sure about 2008. DotNetNuke specifically wants 2003 or 2008. thanx.

Re: XP home edition and serving web apps, mistake, not home but media center edition

I mis stated the OS I have. i assumed it was home edition. Its the media center edition. that must be why i have IIS 5.1 and some of the other xp Pro features in the add remove windows componets. but i do run into a problem with that, just curious if anyone else is having trouble with sp3 not loading correctly on media center os, causing a currupt os. cuasing me to reimage pc.

    AOK for now thanks.

downloaded the network install version of SP3, XP Media Edition, still locked up, but reran it for s and giggles, of course locked up again. But thru it all not exactly sure why, I  have a functional OS, as far as I can tell, running for two weeks or so. Serving web apps.

ps.  SP3 also locked up on my girlfreinds other 2005 vintage compaq tower Home edition, at a different spot early in the install, was able to recover staying on SP2, wanted more pain but SP3 ran fine on my 2006 vintage compaq Home edition lapttop.plus an old, old pentium 3 compaq.

probably not going to mess with SP3 anymore.
