Is there any reason indexing service should not be disabled? If not, would disabling free up resources and help increase performance?

Are you using it as a search engine for your site? bendoregon: would disabling free up resources and help increase performance? It might and you won't know for sure until you test it, but I would be surprised if this actually made much of a difference.
