    Media Services 3 + 64-bit 2008 Server + Plesk 9.2

    When I install the 64-bit version of Media Services 3 all my sites go offline (Service Unavailable). I assume this is because Plesk runs as a 32-bit app? I tried to install the 32 bit version of Media Services 3, but it won't let me as my server is 64-bit 2008. Is there any way to get Media Services 3 working with Plesk?

    Thanks.

    Were you previously running IIS using 32-bit app pools?  Installing Media Services 3 should not alter this setting, and the 64-bit installer should work because it also installs 32-bit versions of all the modules.

    Is there anything suspecious showing up in Event Viewer?  If not, obtaining a Failed Request Tracing trace would be helpful for investigating this issue.

    I've tried installing the 64bit media services 3 via the manual download, and via the Web Platform Installer

    I'm getting these error's:

    Application pool 'plesk(default)(2.0)(pool)' is being automatically disabled due to a series of failures in the process(es) serving that application pool.

    and this: -

    The Module DLL C:\Program Files (x86)\IIS\Media\playlisthandler.dll failed to load.  The data is the error.

    also these warnings:

    A listener channel for protocol 'http' in worker process '4092' serving application pool 'plesk(default)(2.0)(pool)' reported a listener channel failure. The data field contains the error number.

    A listener channel for protocol 'http' in worker process '4808' serving application pool 'PleskControlPanel' reported a listener channel failure. The data field contains the error number.

    All web sites on the server go offline saying "service unavailable", even after I restart the application pool. I've also tried restarting the server.The only way to get the websites working again is to uninstall Media Services 3

    Any help or advice would be great. Thanks

    Please see this blog post - plesk changes ACLs to %programfiles% so that the worker process no longer has access to it - you need to override the ACLs.

    Thanks Anilr, you were correct.
    I would advise people not to have Plesk installed on the server unless you want lots of problems.

    There are also these things you need to do if you want to get Smooth Streaming working with Plesk installed on the server:

    Plesk generated web sites don't inherit the servers default Handler Mappings.
    You need to manually add the Hander Mappings to each web site.

    i.e. for the SmoothHandler do the following:
    In the IIS manager, click the site in question, double click on Handler Mappings, under Actions click on Add Module Mapping. Set the following:
    Request Path=*.ism
    Module=SmoothHandler
    Executable=(left blank)
    Name=SmoothHandler
    Under Request Restrictions place a check in Invoke handler only if request is mapped to: file.

    You'll also need to add the LiveStreamingHandler, PlaylistHandler & WedDAVHandler if you want those services to work. You should be able to copy the correct settings from the servers "default" web site as they will already be installed there correctly.
