    www service keeps disabling

Why does the www service on my new exchange server keep disabling itself? Our original server is an Exchange 2000 and it runs fine. We have added an Exchange 2003 server to the network and it runs fine, except that the www service keeps disabling itself. I have to enable and start it a couple times a day or more. What could cause this?

    Original Server Specs:

    Windows 2000 SP4
    Exchange 2000 Enterprise - Version 6.0 (Build6249.4: Service Pack 3)

    New server Specs:

    Windows 2003 Enterprise SP2
    Exchange 2003 Enterprise - Version 6.5 (Build 7638.2: Service Pack 2)

If this is a clean server and only Exchange is installed, you may post the question to our Exchange forum.

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/category/exchangeserver/

Exchange has its own rules and it can sometimes bring down IIS.

Are you on a corporate Windows domain?  Perhaps there are policies in place ...

The Exchange forum sent me here...said it was an IIS issue. :-(

Yes, this is a corporate network. I am the network admin and have not set any specific policies. This is a new server install. It works fine until the www service disables itself.

This is very unusual behavior I have to suspect that a policy is somehow affecting this.

Is there anything relevant in the server's system or application event logs?

Already checked the logs. Nothing was there of relevance.

That's odd that there are no entries for the WWW service entering a stopped state or reason for a crash.

One thing I would suggest is install and run DebugView on the exchange server that your're having this issue with: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896647.aspx

With that you can run a dump trace on your server to see if there are any clues as to why the WWW Service keeps crashing.

If all else failes, You can resintall the WWW service to see that corrects any issues.
