The memory could not be "read" Please help, i don't understand why.

Seems something fundamental is going on...I'm not really sure what you should do next.   Re: I can't install SQL Express 2008 either Reply Contact Looks like PowerShell is failing for you.  The error is 1603 which is generic, so it can be anything.  If you are on a Windows XP system, try installing PowerShell from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=146817. If you run the setup through the UI, you may see a better error message.   Re: I can't install SQL Express 2008 either Reply Contact I've got XP SP3. I have had Sql Express 2008 and Visual Basic Express 2008 successfully installed on my computer before. I had some trouble with Sql Express 2008, so I figured I would re-install it to fix any problems that I was having, however, I couldn't seem to get it fully Un-installed. Naturally I tried re-installing it with the Web Platform installer and it failed due to Power Shell. I have uninstalled Power Shell, both through the Control Panel -> Remove Programs, and by the Windows%KB folder. I have even gone into the registry and deleted anything pertaining to Power Shell and to Sql. Still no luck. I was able to get sql Express 2008 to install again with the Management Studio, however, I could not connect to the server as the server did not install correctly. So I've tried uninstalling Sql Express 2008 again, and now I get errors when I try to uninstall. I have been working on this for about... 6 hours now. I need help.... both mentally and with my computer. As I type this, I am downloading the actually .exe for Sql Express 2008, I shall try that rather than the Web Platform and I will update with status.

  Re: I can't install SQL Express 2008 either Reply Contact Ok... so Here's the update: I managed to get Sql Express 2008 installed with the Management Studio and I have Power Shell 1.0 installed as well. However, no sql server is actually installed. When I try to connect in the Management Studio, it says it can't find a Sql Server. So I opened the Sql Server Configurations and there are no instances of a Sql Server running, nor will it let me create/start one. I tried the Web Platform installer again, and the only option it gave me was to install the Sql Server Express 2008 SP1. So I tried that and it failed.... I have to start a new post because I just tried something and it WORKED!

  Re: I can't install SQL Express 2008 either Reply Contact This is what I did: I downloaded the Sql Server .exe from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=7522A683-4CB2-454E-B908-E805E9BD4E28&displaylang=en Choose the appropriate .exe for your system. Then I downloaded Power Shell from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/technologies/management/powershell/download.mspx (Again, choose the appropriate one) Install Power Shell and then the SqlExpress.exe It installed everything except for the Database Engine and the Sql Server Replicator. Next, go to Start -> Run -> and locate the sqlexpress.exe file you downloaded. At the end of the file after the " type -x and then run it. This will allow you to choose where to extract the files to. I Chose the C:\ directory. I then loaded the Sql Server Installation Center and choose the Installation option on the left. I choose to add features and I added the Database Engine and Server Replicator.(If it askes you for an installation directory, choose the one you just made.) I also turned off my firewall. (that may or may not have had something to do with it.) That was it. I now have Sql Express 2008 with Management Studios. Needless to say... I won't be uninstalling for awhile. It only took me 8 hours of dealing with it!

I did, I tried several, several times with the WebPI. However it kept failing. I still can't install the SP1 for Sql Express

BTW, I successfully installed the thing: From Control Panel remove the Windows PowerShell. Again from Control Panel uninstall any Microsoft application that has the word SQL From http://www.microsoft.com/express/sql/download/ install the third option "Runtime with Management Tools" - for me it installed again the PowerShell. And surprisingly it runs...
