This is hosted as a dedicated server on public IP. This server is configured as a Workgroup. The target folder is on Drive E and NTFS permision has ben given.   I have created a username/password in Computer Management and given this user NTFS rights to access this folder.   In the IIS Properties, i have enabled Anonymous Access and given this user name and password. Authenticated Access is not selected.   My problem ::   When i connect from my web client, i am able to connect to the WebDAV folder, but it is not asking for my username/password.

Authenticated Access is not selected. There you go - you allow anonymous access, so therefor you won't be prompted.   Re: WebDAV folder access - Not asking for credentials. Reply Contact Thanks Tom.  I disabled the [Enable Annonymus Access]. All the Authenticated Access are also disabled. When i connect to http:// it gives me a message as :: The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another. Please tell me the steps on how to go about this. My webserver is configured as a workgroup. Is that ok? Will this cause this problem?

You can't do that, you need to enable some form of authentication or allow anonymous. I have given the IP of my webserver for the Default Domain. Realm has been left blank. I am now able to connect to WebDAV folder from my Windows Explorer - > Tools -> Map Network Drive. Is there a way i can directly connect to my WebDAV folder without mapping the drive??

From IExplorer it seems to work. From Map Network Drive doesn't work, it doesn't prompt for credentials. I have Site with Anonymous, then created a Virtual Directory pointing to network shared folder (webdav folder) with Basic auth. Tried with SSL with no luck. Why doesn't ank for credentials? If I map a share where I have permissions I can see the content, but when I click on another share where I don't have permissions it doesn't prompt for creds. Can you help me?   Thanks

Reply Contact So you have a virtual directory pointing to a network share, Basic authentication only and it's not prompting you for credentials when you browse to it? What is showing in the IIS log for that request? Reply Contact now I have: site --> anounymous VD --> basic and domain (no realm) From client XP SP3:  if I try from IExplorer OK but I can see all folder contents (If folder with no permissions shouldn't , instead would like to be prompted for credentials) from Map Netwrok Drive doesn't work..........."Network Path not found" or "the driver was not installed"...........or prompts always for credentials not creating the drive

Reply Contact also on \\server\share I have Everyone Full Share permission......on single directories I have specific users having or not permissions. The fact is that I would like to be asked ALWAYS for credentials (popup window)
