500 server error when trying to connect to webdav

Hi.  I just installed the webdav extension for iis7.

when I try to mount a site using the following command "net use z: http://example.com"  I get the following message

    System error 59 has occured.

    An unexpected network error occured.

I opend up fiddler and watched the request, and I am actually getting a 500 server error

This is driving me crazy, any help will be appreciated

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Detailed information:

The server is brand new clean install of of server 2008, there is nothing on it yet.

I have a folder c:\sites, which is the root where I will store several websites, each website gets their own folder.

I do not want to enable webdav on each site individually.

I do want to enable webdav to the c:\sites folder, so that I have one place where I can drop files for every website on the server.

Each site will be setup as their own website with a host header in iis. Each site will be located at c:\sites\sitename\wwwroot\

The webdav site will be setup a seperate site, pointing to the  c:\sites folder.

For the webdav site I have all authentication methodes disabled except Basic Authentication

I have an authorization rule setup to allow all users

I have a webdav authoring rule setup to allow access to all content, to all users with read source and write permissions.  I have webdav enabled on the site.

The webdav client is vista business.

I know that by default the vista client will not allow basic authentication without SSL.  I have modified the registry to allow this.

I know that this setup is not secure.  I am doing this for testing purposes at the moment and when I can prove that it works, I will secure it.

This server is not part of a windows domain.
