FastCgi & Vista SP1 - Base Install Procedure Request...

I have been tearing the few remaining hairs out of my head for the past two weeks!

Could someone please explain the following:

    1. Reinstating a vanilla build of IIS7 to start with; and
    2. A step by step process for a base install of FastCgi on Vista SP1; this should include
      • which PHP version to use,
      • changes for PHP.ini
      • changes for applicationHost.config
      • links for additional information on add-ons like mySQL.

And before you say look at this, or look at that, I have. Everything I have found on here, and in Google, has been for the PRE-SP1 (think Beta) releases of the FastCgi module. I understand that there should be a simple way to go about getting this done but I either end up with the module closing unexpectedly and receiving  500 errors OR the server not even recognising .php files and asking me if I want to open the page in my editor?

And if this helps anyone willing to help me, here are my specs I'm building on:

    • Dell XPS 1210 with Vista Business
    • 2gb Ram
    • Developing both ASP.Net, Classic ASP, and (hopefully) PHP sites

If you have any questions, please ask! I am more than happy to give any further information necessary in order to get this up and running so I can work with PHP!

Thank you for your time and patience!

Here is an instruction I use:

    Install IIS FastCGI

    Install PHP with FastCGI

    It is for Vista SP1/IIS7.

Could you please check whether you perform all described steps and whether the simple phpinfo file is executed.

    phpinfo.php should contain only:

    <?php phpinfo();

    Regards,
    Alex

Thank you for your help Alex, sorry for the delay in response.

I went through the steps outlined in the links above, and I can see the phpinfo response.

    BUT

when I try to submit a form page to read the fields and write a simple response (which works fine on a live server) a dialogue opens and I'm still asked what IIS should do with the process.php file?

If there is any specific information which would help in debugging this, please do not hesitate to ask!

Thanks again for your help, and anyone else who wants to poke their nose in either!

    UPDATE:

I have to hold my head in shame and beg forgiveness from the community, it seems I had the darn thing running the whole time!

I finally broke down and .... let my text editor open the prompted file *dun dun duuuuuun!*

It held loads of information as to why my script wasn't working, AND what I needed to change to get it to! :-D

My only question, and again I'm so new to the PHP arena I plead stupidity, why wouldn't the errors show in my browser window like the do on both my Staging and Live servers?

Dev Server : Vista Business/IIS7 via FastCgi

Staging Server : Win2k/Apache2 via XAMMP

Live Server : Linux/Apache2 standard server

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
