Newbie seeking help!

hello everyone, i am absolutely new to IIS and would like to start learning about it, can someone point me in the direction of any beginner tutorials, articles etc about setting up IIS 5.1 on windows XP SP2. Also it would be just for experimenting so i do not want to actually make available or connect to a server so if you can inform me on what settings to use to restrict connections to the Internet. thanks in advance.

I am a .net developer and trying to test my web-site on my own XP development computer. I have installed a certificate. I can access the site with http but it does not work with https. When I use SSLDiag.exe to simulate SSL handshake, I get an 0x80090308 error message and it says to look at the SSL errors shown in the main SSLDiagnostic tool. However, there are no errors on the main page. Does anybody know what the problem is?

My Configuration

OS: Win XP sp3 , PHP: 5.2.10, IIS: 5.1

I installed and configure PHP using following link. I created the page which phpinfo.php and it displays the PHP configuration, so i guess my PHP installation is correct.

I have got a small website which someone did in PHP and now i am trying to learn PHP using that website.

I have created a virtual directory under Default Website pointing to a folder on other drive. When i type http://localhost/vf/index.php nothing is being displayed, just a blank page not even the error, where vf is the alias.

If I copy phpinfo.php in the root of the folder and type http://localhost/vf/phpinfo.php then it displays the php configuration. I cant understand what I am doing wrong. To me it seems like something very minor but I cant just get my head around it.

I would really appreciate if anyone can spot something that I have missed.

Background:

Right now I’m in the middle of manually installing PHP 5.2.9 (rather than using the .MSI) on XP Pro SP3 using IIS 5.1. I’ve verified IIS 5.1 and MMC 3.0 and already installed MySQL 5.1, and FileZilla. I'm using ISAPI instead of CGI, by the way.

This is a dev machine, the final web site will get pushed to a host but I want to do the development/learning locally. The reason I’m sticking with IIS is that my host does not support Apache, so WAMP / Xampp is out.

Issue:

No matter what I do I can't get phpinfo() to properly report the location of the “Configuration File Path”. It seems "glued to" C:\WINDOWS. I’ve researched this until my fingers are nubs (starting with but not limited to the PHP site) but I’m not coming up with anything that works. Here’s what I’ve done:

I've:
1. Included PHP in the Windows PATH (before MySQL’s) as ";E\PHP;"
2. Added the PHPRC system variable pointing to my install location as "E:\PHP"
3. Modified PHP.INI's extension_dir to point to "e:\php\ext"
4. Modified the Registry to include: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PHP IniFilePath E:\PHP
5. Though it may not be relevant, I've set up the ISAPI module in IIS Properties for all "Web Sites" as follows:
5a. Added to the ISAPI Filters list: PHP pointing at e:\php\php5isapi.dll
5b. Set the Home Directory: Execute for Scripts Only
5c. Mapped the .php extension, having it point at the same location as above and setting verbs to: GET,POST,HEAD
6. Set the Documents, adding “index.php” and moving it to the top of the list
7. I then stopped and restarted IIS using net stop and net start (and completely rebooted my workstation too)

No matter how many times I've checked my entries, when I run phpinfo( ) -- as test.php -- the "Loaded Configuration File" data is correct (E:\PHP\php.ini), but the "Configuration File Path for php.ini is not; it still points to "C:\WINDOWS".

I'm not sure how serious this is, yet. The simple tests I've run so far seem to work okay but I'm concerned that having the Configuration File Path wrong, will "get me" sooner or later -- and I've learned over the years not to drive passed issues that aren't solved or resolved.

Any help would be appreciated.

Problem with IIS 7.0 and asp net session var

Hello, I have a big trouble 'cause I have an asp net application and this application needs session vars, when I'm using windows xp and IIS 6 the application works preffectly, but in production with windows server 2008 and IIS 7 the session expires each 10 minutes, please help me, thanks and sorry about my english

When I run this code it works fine from the application.

But when I put in IIS creating a virtual directory, it shows the following error.

I've an application developed in ASP.Net to convert any file to pdf file using Adobe PDF Printer.
In the .aspx page I've kept one button control and in the click event I've written :

Please note that I'm using Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional and PDF Printer is installed in my system and it is set to default printer.
In the properties of the PDF Printer, in the Port tab, I've set the port to "My Document\*.pdf " . It will save the .pdf file to My Document.

I'm using ASP.Net 2.0 with IIS 5.1 installed.

The issue is :
This is working fine while running the application directly(i.e. the Krushna.doc file is converting to Krushna.pdf and save to My Document Folder) .

But when the application running from IIS, it is asking to save the pdf file i.e. one save dialog window is opened. But I need to directly save the pdf file to the My Document Folder.

How I'll do it so that the pdf file will save automatically when running from IIS ?

Please reply...It is urgent requirment.

Proposed Web Application Solution.. Sounds OK?

Hello!

My company is in the prelimanary stages of planning a new application that will be a hosted web app as well as have the need to be on Laptops. I am thinking of creating one web app and having the Laptop users have IIS installed on their machines so we are developing one application instead of a Web version and a WinForms version. My thinking is a browser is just another container to host a language, in this case HTML and Javascript with C# on the server side.

IN the past, a team had developed an app were all the controls were defined in an XML file and depending on the platform, it would dynamically generate either an HTML form or a Win Form. But this approached sucked.. Each version looked horrible since the strengths of each platform could no be fully utilized easily. I think we should stay with the VS Web forms designer and build one app. Sound reasonable?

Also, can only IIS 5.1 run on WIndows XP Pro? IIS 7 cannot be installed on XP Pro?

Why Can't I Access My Site on the LAN? Using XP PRO w/ IIS 5.1

My site is setup. I can acess it locally. I can ping the machines, but I cannot access the site from other computers.

I have not changed anything, all of the defaults are set.

When I go to Directory Security the IP Address and Domain Name Restrictions is grayed out. (I assume that this is a result of whatever causes this problem).

I haven't used IIS in a few years and at that time it was on Server 2000 and I didn't have to customize anything.

IIS 7 - FRAMEWORK 3.5 - Debug fails to see javascript breakpoints (WIN XP Pro)

I am in a soup of weak understanding.

May save yourself some time, by reading the next reply... as IE 8 seems to be the source of the problem.

SETUP:
I installed 3.5 ajax, IIS 7, 3.5 framework, and Visual Studio 2008, on XP PRO.
All good all functioning well, debugging (javascript, HTML, VB).
Intellisense working in all 3 languages, isn't that simply beautiful.

This is on a startup project with 4 html/aspx pages accessing my SQLServer 2005 without any problems, and doing postbacks via the ajax ScriptManager mechanism, sweetly. Couldn't be better!

ERROR:
...after weeks of working great, problem with breakpoints in javascript being ignored.

TROUBLESHOOTING:
I have done everything suggested in 1 million forums, to no avail.

Yes, I do place a breakpoint in the VB codebehind, and it hits that one.

DISCREPANCIES: (The only reason I became aware of these discrepancies is thru troubleshooting the breakpoints issue.)

The ASP.NET version in IIS shows 2.xxxxxx, was expecting 3.5.
Ok! I now know that 3.5 is an extension thus 2.xxx is still the base (aspnet_isapi.dll).
Even though I have installed IIS 7.0(and is shows correctly in the Add Programs), when I check the version under the Help-About of the IIS console, it shows 5.1
Is 7 not installed? or is the version on the IIS panel the version of the console?

QUESTIONS:

Did either of the commands I ran under the command window do any damage?
How do I know IIS 7.0 is really installed? ...given discrepancy 2.
Can you see anything I need to check that might resolve the issue of the breakpoints in javascript?
I am praying the answer is here, not in 4. below.
I am at the end of my wits on this one, and I am contemplating reinstalling!

I will first create a new project and rebuild one page at a time to see if I get success.
If 1 fails, and I do reinstall:

what should I UNINSTALL, ZAP, in WHAT order?
be clear as to exactly what, including whether a folder is to be removed along with its contents.
...and what should I INSTALL in WHAT ORDER!
DO I HAVE TO reINSTALL all of:
Framework(s), IIS, Visual Studio?
