Can right click the start (round win logo) button in Vista and select Properties then click Customize... to enable the setting that shows the Run menu option. Not really needed though since you can type cmd directly at the search bar and press ENTER to open the command prompt (btw you can do the same at any windows explorer folder view window, by typing cmd at the address bar - that has the added benefit that it will open the command prompt, with the current path set to be that folder)

WPI MySQL Connect Error

I posted this issue earlier in the wrong forum.

WPI successfully installed all components including Wordpress. However, after Internal Error 500 on "activating" a premium theme, not being a programmer/developer, I uninstalled WPI installed components and tried Wamp. Wamp was not successful, so reinstalled Wordpress application and components w/WPI. On this second installation with WPI there is a problem w/ MySQL Windows Essential 5.1.

After entering passwords/user names and clicking Continue, the following error message displays:

Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts.

Continue anyway? Yes or No

OS is 32-bit, Vista Business SP2

Only changes on computer between first successful install with WPI and this reinstallation w/occurring MySQL connect error, is install/uninstall of Wamp and Wordpress, and 25 Microsoft updates.

WPI Applications tab no show...

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate with no service packs. I am successfuly connected to the internet and I am wanting to try and run a small LAN server here at my house.

I would like to be able to use not only ASP.net but also PHP with my small home sites so I have turned to WPI for a great and easy install of PHP on IIS 7.0 for me.

Now that I have it installed I started it up and there is NO Web Applications tab at all; showing up on the GUI. I am running it on a 1gb RAM , with a 40gb hd on it. I don't know if that helps you but I still can not figure out this problem? Do you think if i update my computer to SP1 that this will fix this problem?

I don't really want to update because of my slow internet conection but I will if you all think it would help me any. Thank You in Advance:)

Classic ASP Basic Scripts Not Working - Vista Ultimate

Hello,

I am migrating a working site/application to IIS7 and can't get even the simplist of asp scripts to work.

I can get ASP pages to display on the localhost (even with include files) but they will only display the HTML content. It will not display simple code output, such as:

<%
response.write("I have a lot to learn")
%>

I have installed all the IIS components available. I have set the authentication mode set to Anonymous Authentication.

I am not getting an error message, even after unchecking Internet Explorer to "Show Friendly..."

I appreciate any assistance as I am not an expert in this area by any means. I am at the point of reverting to IIS6 (which I'm sure will be its own set of challenges.)

It is not true that asp.net 1.1 does not run on a 64 bit OS. Here are the basic steps to check:

First make sure you have IIS Metabase Compatability installed from the 'windows' or 'server role' features.

I am not sure if it matters, but I install the compat feature, then install the .net 1.1 framework and then .net 1.1 SP1

Next setup the .net 1.1 isapi filter in IIS 7.0

Next you need to enable 32 bit apps on a 64 bit server by running

cscript %SYSTEMDRIVE%\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs SET W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 1

Then I run the aspnet_regiis -i

Finally open the applicationHost.config and find the entry for the .net 1.1 isapi filter (<add path="C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_isapi.dll" allowed="false" groupId="ASP.NET v1.1.4322" description="ASP.NET v1.1.4322" />) and set the attribute 'allowed="true"'

If you still have problems, double check the file security permissions in the directory of the web-site.

I have .net 1.1 applications running on multiple x64 Server 2008 Standard / Enterprise and Web Server editions.

Filaron,

To map a drive to a specific WebDAV URL, simply use the URL you're trying to connect to. For example, the following command will map a drive to a specific WebDAV-enabled site on a shared IP:

net use W: http://files.domain.com /USER:files

It'll prompt for a password, then finish the mapping properly. IIS will pick up the host headers and direct it to the proper site as normal.

Configuration with WCF

I'm using IIS 7 on Vista Home Premium (SP1) - Framework 3.5. I've configured a website that's working with regular ASP.NET web pages - also some AJAX stuff and a Silverlight Client...all working fine. (This is local on my personal laptop - no domain controller or Active Directory, etc.)

Now I need to add a WCF service to the site. It's working in Visual Studio - Also, I can run the Service outside of Studio on the Web Development server. So, both the client code and server code are working and debugged.

I've installed the Windows Communication Foundation Activation Components for Framework 3.0 and it placed the svc-Integrated and svc-ISAPI-2.0 handlers in the Default Web Site settings along with the Mime Type for .svc. Seems like I've done everything mentioned in this site and MSDN configuring WCF in IIS 7. Seems like the server-side and client-side bindings I'm using for the web Development Server shold work for IIS, if I just change the endpoint address in the client config. (or did I miss something?)

Anyway, I just keep getting: "System.ServiceModel.ServiceActivationException - The requested service, http://localhost/XmlConference/MovieService.svc, could not be activated." (That is the correct URL.)

Message says to look in the Trace Log but that just reports a Return Code of 500 (which, of course, doesn't help much). And there's no InnerException - at least none returned to the Client.

What else do I need to do?

First Installation Fails

I just installed wpilauncher for the first time. After going through the tedious task of providing user names and passwords for a platoons worth of people it informed me that the product had been previously installed. I found this a novel means of getting software is installed. This Hard Drive has only been installed for about 4 day, and this was my first installation of any of the MSDN offerings. Could you use this new technology to install Windows 7 for me.
